poking

there is a really obnoxious tool on facebook called the "poke" button

well max and i took full advantage of a beautiful opportunity to have a little fun and had a friendly competition to see who could have the most pokes returned by people in our ward.

you may thing we are super strange but for some strange reason we found this extremely hilarious

apparently at least 30 other people know the button exists and we are just suuuuuper popular

thanks for all the pokes BYU 80th ward :]

patience is a virtue

Apologizes for this being my first real post since December. Wow how time flies.

It may have seemed that exams did me in, but I can assure you I somehow did survive and following had a lovely winter break home in Wisconsin. Winter semester picked up the day I got back to Provo. Somehow jumping into the flow of things the blog was forgotten about, yadda yadda yadda. But I'm back, and actually with quite a few fun things to share.

Few updates.

Ended the semester with a bang (love when that happens) and ended up being my best semester academically  that I've had yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance to say that again.

Christmas was magical. Yes I know, hard to believe if you know us well enough. But with the whole family together in one place, in so long, it was stupendous. Richard had been gone for the last two years in Cali and although I hate to admit it in writing, things aren't the same without him. Kassie and her family even made the trip out there with me so we had fun on the plane. Break was relaxing, cold, snowy, blissful, well needed, tasty, noisy, spirited, short and perfect. I even got in a few visits to dear friends, but quite a few more visits to Culvers.Oh how I have missed.

New semester means new classes. I am now in: Philosophy of Religion; it's fascinating, complicated, boring and mind blowing. No I didn't think either that it was possible to have all those at the same time. After that class it's Statistics. Don't judge me, yes this is the second time I am taking it. Next is Media Writing. Probably my favorite real class this semester. We pretty much learn how to write and then the last day of class that week we come to class, we get a topic, we write, and its due at the end of class. It's fun. Doctrine and Covenants (second half) is my religion class this semester. From BOTT! Hes the man in case you were not aware. He's the best ranked professor on all of "rate my professor." Pretty legit. And then lastly I have Intro to Public Relations. Probably my most important class this semester which is not good cause I am struggling. Not so great as I seem to want to go into PR.

Yep that's basics.

Chow Down

So there's this restaurant that we are addicted to.
Its called @12
The Chinese food is great, but the addiction we have is due to the price.

They are a brand new place that has opened up in the Macy's parking lot.

One Friday night when we stopped by, they were celebrating Chinese New Year.
They were practically giving away food it was even more cheap
AND they were having a chow mien noodle eating contest.

Free food, of course we hopped on board
[another photo here]

Kels and I were the only girls who joined in,
It was all you can eat for 4 straight minutes
[third photo here]

Jake  finished 4 boxes,
... and won!

We walked away with a $50 gift card, tummy aches, loads and loads of Chinese food (most of which was free),  and huge grins across our faces :]

"Who knew that Mormon boys could play hockey?”

For my writing class we get to practice writing fun stuff. Being from Wisconsin and a fan of hockey this topic seemed only fitting. This was one of my news stories:

Jesessa Roney sat front row on a chilly metal bench just inches away from Plexiglas, the only barrier separating sweaty, pad covered men with mouth guards and ice skates, chasing after a black, three-inch rubber piece.

As the BYU goalie stopped Weber State from scoring again, Roney screamed and threw her hands in the air, contributing to the high noise level of the scarce stands.

Cow bells and corn rattlers could be heard amongst the yells and cheers, urging the team on.

While Roney claimed herself a loyal Cougar fan, who had not missed a home men’s basketball game all season, she attended her first BYU hockey game Saturday against Weber State.

The BYU men’s hockey team is a vigorous sport hidden at BYU and has one of the smallest supporting crowds.

“Before I didn’t even know BYU had a hockey team,” said Daniel Blake, a hockey fan convert just after his first game.

With approximately a third of the stands full, the number of Weber State fans was about the same as BYU students in attendance.

“They’re not crappy at practice; we just need to practice incorporating drills into scrimmaging,” said Evan Strobelt, a current BYU student practicing with the team.

Although the team winning statistics of the BYU men’s hockey team are not favorable, with a current record of 0-8, the crowd was enthusiastic.

The atmosphere of a hockey game seemed to be quite different that other BYU sports, including a riotous, interactive audience that cheered when hostile acts occurred on the ice.

“I thought I was surrounded by UVU kids or at the demolition derby,” Roney said.

The next BYU men’s hockey game is Friday at the seven peaks ice skating arena, yet Strobelt mentioned that the next great game will be in a few weeks against the U of U.

“Who knew that Mormon boys could play hockey?” Blake said.
